Nucleus Colonies by Riverfox Farm

Start your season off with the advantage of a carefully tended nucleus colony including built-out comb frames on waxed Rite-Cell foundation, brood, workers, a 2023 fertile/mated marked queen, and food stores.  Nucs are provided in cardboard bee boxes, ready to be installed in your permanent hardware.  Nucs hold an advantage over packaged bees, as this option provides you with a mini-colony with honey bees in all stages of the life-cycle, a queen proven to be well-accepted and productive, valuable drawn comb, and readily available nectar (carbohydrates) and pollen (proteins) your new bees require to thrive!

Mated Queen Bees

Breeding stock selected for traits including mite resistance, brood rearing, honey production, and overwintering capability .  Our apiary includes both Carniolan and Italian stock, which have won our favor as gentle bees! Contact us directly for availability. 

 

We personally raise our Honey Bee Queens in Berryville, VA.  Each queen bee is individually observed to be a productive layer, with healthy egg/brood offspring shown.  Our queens are produced from parentage stock which has demonstrated strong survivability in our climate/zone in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. All honey bee sales are accompanied by a Health Certificate issued by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
